Overview

The course will cover the initial training and assessment requirements of personnel working in the oil and gas industry within the role of an Offshore Emergency Response Team Leader. The course is designed to provide delegates with the underpinning knowledge, understanding, and practical skills required to undertake the role of an Emergency Response Team Leader. This comprehensive program is specifically designed to equip participants with the required competency to effectively respond to emergency-related situations and safeguard personnel and asset welfare on offshore platforms or drilling rigs.

  • 1. Define the role and key responsibilities of the Emergency Response Team Leader (ERTL).

  • 2. State the main priorities and objectives of an ERTL during emergency response.

  • 3. Explain the purpose and elements of Offshore Emergency Response (OER) arrangements, procedures, and planning.

  • 4. Identify the emergency response Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements for both ERTL and Emergency Response Team Members (ERTM).

  • 5. Demonstrate the ability to set priorities and objectives during incident response.

  • 6. Monitor environmental and human factors affecting emergency response operations.

  • 7. Explain and conduct dynamic risk assessments throughout an emergency situation.

  • 8. Delegate tasks and communicate effectively with the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and relevant personnel.

  • 9. Provide clear and concise instructions to ERT members during emergencies.

  • 10. Lead the ERT with clarity, confidence, and safety considerations during fire and non-fire operations.

  • 11. Direct ERT members into incident areas, ensuring continuous risk assessment and member safety.

  • 12. Monitor and manage breathing apparatus (BA) control effectively.

  • 13. Conduct casualty management and missing person searches efficiently during emergencies.

  • 14. Recognize and address signs of stress in ERT members during incident response.

Requirements
  • Valid Initial Offshore Emergency Response Team Member (OERTM) Training Certificate: This demonstrates that the individual has completed the foundational training for offshore emergency response.
  • OR
  • Valid Further Offshore Emergency Response Team Member (FOERTM) Training Certificate: This shows that the individual has completed refresher training, maintaining competency as an emergency response team member.
