Helideck Emergency Response Team Member (HERTM)

Description

The course will provide offshore helideck emergency response personnel with the knowledge, skills, and underpinning knowledge to function in an effective ERT member during helideck and helicopter emergencies.

2. Effective communication and teamwork during an emergency.
3. Safe and efficient management of incidents in offshore helideck operations.

Personnel designated as Helideck Emergency Response Team Members (HERTM).

What will you learn
  • 1. Define Key Roles and Responsibilities: Identify the main responsibilities of a HERTM; Understand key elements of HERTM operation; Recognize types of potential offshore helideck emergencies.

  • 2. Firefighting Safety and BA Operations: State general firefighting safety goals and objectives; Conduct Breathing Apparatus (BA) operations as directed by the HLO, following safe practices:;

  • 3. Helideck Emergency Systems and Response: Explain the purpose of typical helideck emergency systems and controls; Differentiate between emergency responses on main fixed or floating installations and Normally Unattended Installations (NUIs).

  • 4. Communication and Response: Communicate effectively with the HLO and team members; Respond appropriately to HLO directions during emergencies.

  • 5. Incident Approach and Assessment: Under HLO direction, approach the incident area in a controlled manner; Continuously assess how changes in the emergency may impact team safety.

  • 6. Firefighting Operations: Conduct firefighting using fixed and mobile equipment; Provide progress updates to the HLO at appropriate intervals.

  • 7. Non-Fire Emergency Response: Respond effectively to non-fire helideck emergencies as directed by the HLO;

  • 8. Search and Rescue: Perform search and rescue operations for missing persons and casualties.

  • 9. Casualty Handling and Teamwork: Use correct casualty handling techniques; Collaborate with the emergency response backup team when needed.

  • 10. Human Factors and Performance: Report to the HLO any human factors affecting individual or team performance during emergencies.


Requirements
  • A valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Member (HERTM) Certificate or
  • A valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Member Further (HERTM-F) Certificate or
  • A valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader (HERTL) Certificate or
  • A valid Helideck Emergency Response Team Leader further (HERTL-F) Certificate
  • Please note that if you already have the above certificates then you don't need to complete the Helideck Operations Initial Training Standard
