BASIC TRAINING IN OIL AND CHEMICAL TANKER CARGO OPERATIONS
Description
BASIC TRAINING IN OIL AND CHEMICAL TANKER CARGO OPERATIONS
This value-added familiarisation course is designed in accordance with the IMO Model Course 1.01 and the requirements of STCW Section A-V/1-1 and A-V/1-2 for personnel assigned specific duties related to cargo handling on board oil and chemical tankers. The training provides participants with a solid foundation in the principles of safe tanker operations and familiarises them with the hazards associated with handling flammable, toxic and environmentally sensitive cargoes.
The course covers key topics such as international regulations (MARPOL, SOLAS and STCW), hazards of oil and chemicals, basic tanker layout, tank atmosphere management, use of personal protective equipment, cargo handling equipment and operational procedures. It also includes emergency response actions, pollution prevention techniques and tanker specific safety management system practices.
Through a blend of classroom teaching, case studies and practical demonstrations, the programme aims to build awareness and develop a safety mindset among seafarers working on or intending to join tanker vessels. On successful completion of the course, participants will be able to recognise potential risks, comply with safety guidelines and participate safely and effectively in routine cargo operations on board oil or chemical tankers. The course is not approved by DG Shipping.
