Banksman Training Stage 3
Description
The Banksman Training Stage 3 course provides advanced competency training for experienced banksmen involved in lifting and rigging operations within the oil and gas, construction, and marine industries. This course focuses on safe lifting practices, load handling, signaling techniques, and effective communication with crane operators.
Participants will learn to assess risks, manage lifting operations, and ensure compliance with industry safety standards. Practical exercises and real-world simulations reinforce skills needed to coordinate safe and efficient load transfers. Successful candidates will gain certification, enhancing their professional qualifications for demanding operational roles.

1. Implementing Load-Moving Procedures: Following the competent person’s lifting plan and risk assessment.

2. Banksman Responsibilities: Understanding Health and Safety statutory requirements; Establishing the weight of loads.

3. Environmental Considerations: Applying company procedures for environmental conditions and allowable limits; Checking load ratings and the size of the laydown area.

4. Team Communication: Conducting team briefings (TBT) with relevant personnel; Confirming the load's weight before lifting.

5. Approved Procedures and Practices: Applying approved procedures relevant to the operations, work activities, and the workplace.

6. Load Handling and Storage: Approaching the load's final destination when signaled by the Banksman; Storing slings and lifting accessories properly.

7. Emergency Signals: Recognizing the emergency stop signal, which can be given by anyone to the crane operator; Applying route planning methods and techniques.

8. Effective Communication: Establishing and maintaining effective communication with the crane operator, slingers, and, if applicable, the supply vessel.
Requirements
- The target group for Stage 3 consists of personnel seeking certification as competent Banksmen. Candidates should have previously completed Banksman training and/or possess sufficient and relevant work experience to qualify for the Stage 3 assessment.
