Banksman & Slinger Stage 3

Description

The Banksmen  & Slinger Stage 3 course is designed for individuals who have completed previous Banksman & Slinger training or have previously completed Banksman & Slinger training. This advanced course focuses on assessing the competency of personnel aiming to become certified as fully qualified Banksmen & Slingers.

Participants will undergo a comprehensive assessment to demonstrate their ability to perform lifting operations safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards. Upon successful completion, candidates will be certified as competent in the Banksman & Slinger role, enhancing their qualifications for on-site responsibilities.

What will you learn
  • 1. Implementing load-moving procedures effectively based on the competent person’s lifting plan and risk assessment.

  • 2. Discussing the lift with relevant personnel during a team briefing (TBT) and confirming the weight of the load.

  • 3. Understanding the procedure to follow in the event of a general platform alarm, as well as the company procedure for environmental conditions and the limits allowed.

  • 4. Reviewing the company procedure for environmental conditions and limits, and checking the load rating and size of the laydown area.

  • 5. Being aware of permanent obstructions within the crane reach and working area, and installing barriers effectively to keep the lifting area clear.

  • 6. Visually checking the load and lifting equipment, and giving the signal to lift, starting minimally to test stability.

  • 7. Establishing and maintaining effective communication with the crane operator, slingers, and, if appropriate, the supply vessel.

  • 8. Understanding the Banksman’s responsibilities under Health and Safety statutory requirements, and how to establish the weight of loads.

  • 9. Following approved procedures and practices in the context of the operations, work activity, and workplace.

  • 10. Identifying the relevant personnel involved in the activity, reporting lines, and procedures, and methods used for signaling and communication.

  • 11. Understanding the emergency stop signal that can be given by anyone to the crane operator, and route planning methods and techniques.

  • 12. Considering the necessary precautions when working with cranes in adverse weather conditions.

  • 13. Reviewing

  • 14. Checking the condition of the load to ensure it is fit to be lifted, and checking for potential dropped objects on the load.

  • 15. Conducting pre-use checks of the lifting accessories and securing the cargo within a container/half-height using ratchet straps.

  • 16. Approaching the load to its final destination when signaled by the Banksman and storing slings and lifting accessories.

  • 17. Understanding the Slinger’s responsibilities under Health and Safety statutory requirements, and how to establish the weight of loads.

  • 18. Understanding the color coding and marking systems for lifting equipment and accessories, and why they are used.


Requirements
  • A valid, approved Stage 1 Banksman and Slinger Training Certificate, and
  • A fully completed logbook, based on the Stage 2 Banksman and Slinger Standard workplace requirements, OR
  • A formal letter from the current employer on company letterhead, stating that the candidate has met the equivalent of the Stage 2 lifting experience logbook criteria.
  • The formal letter should include the following details:
  • 1. The senior employer representative’s position within the company,
  • 2. Full contact details,
  • 3. The signature and date of the senior employer representative.
  • This letter must be sent directly from the employer to the Assessment Centre prior to the assessment.
